New Guidelines Recognize The Effectiveness Of Physiotherapy
For Treating Certain Types Of Pain—Many Sufferers Now Try Physiotherapy Before Drugs Or Surgery

As specially trained physiotherapists, we wanted to share some news. Recently, the American College of Physicians and The American Pain Society announced new guidelines that recognize the effectiveness of physiotherapy in treating back pain. In addition, a February, 2007 article in the Journal of the American Heart Association quoted Harvard professor Elliott M. Antman, M.D. to say that, “We advise physicians to start with non-pharmacologic treatments such as physiotherapy and exercise, weight loss to reduce stress on joints, and heat or cold therapy.”

The news doesn’t stop there, as more and more physicians now recommend physiotherapy as the first step in treating common musculoskeletal ailments.
Many clients now prefer going directly to a physiotherapist for persistent aches and pains before seeing their doctor. The therapist can provide an important evaluation that helps doctors determine the best course of treatment for their client. For example, in addition to traditional rehabilitation programs, specially trained physiotherapists provide relief for:
    • Low back and neck pain, including degenerative disc disease
    • Headaches
    • Osteoarthritis
    • Osteoporosis
    • Fibromyalgia
    • Obesity (see Discriminated Fat Loss)
    • Type II Diabetes
    • Parkinson’s Disease
    • Multiple Sclerosis
    • Total Hip and Knee Replacements (Pre- and Post-op)
    • High Blood Pressure and Heart Disease
    • Asthma and Other Respiratory Disorders
    • Chronic Fatigue
    • Post-MVA / Whiplash Associated Disorders
